Once a trademark application is filed, the Registry examines the application to determine the distinctiveness of the mark. If the Examiner is satisfied that the mark is distinctive and that there are no similar marks already existing in the Trade Register, then the mark is published in the Trademarks Journal and shall eventually proceed towards registration if there are no oppositions filed by third parties during the statutory 4-month period or if an opposition if filed and the order is granted in favour of the applicant. Thereafter an e-registration certificate is issued and the trademark shall be valid for a period of ten years from the date of filing of the application.
