The Maldives has no legislation that has been enacted in terms of Intellectual Property Rights. To circumvent this, there is sufficient trademark protection that has been offered by way of acquiring public recognition through cautionary notices.

Protection of intellectual property such as trademarks, industrial designs, geographical indications, or patents in the Maldives is by way of establishing rights under the Common Law by publishing a cautionary notice in local newspapers in both Dhivehi and English language.
