Fiona is an advocate and registered Indian Patent Agent at Selvam and Selvam.
Fiona specialises in patent-related work in the fields of life sciences, biochemistry, chemistry and pharmaceuticals and has extensive experience in drafting patent specifications and prosecution of patent applications in these fields. She also performs prior art searches and freedom-to-operate searches. She gives her opinions in these matters and represents clients in patent revocations. She also represents her clients in appeals and petitions before the Intellectual Property Appellate Board and the High Court.
Fiona enjoys her advisory work in respect of advising clients in relation to clinical trial regulations in India, requirements under the Indian biological diversity statute and also on agreements involving research collaboration, technology licences and clinical trial outsourcing.
She writes on patent-related developments in India for the website of CNBC TV18’s The Firm and the Practical Lawyer and contributes to our blog. She has recently co-authored the India chapter of an international guidebook titled “Patent Transactions in the Life Sciences – A global guide to agreements in the sector” published by Globe Law and Business, UK.
